Carl Granville Vannoy Obituary (1914 - 2017)

Carl Granville Vannoy, 102, of Madisonville, KY passed away Thursday, February 16, 2017 at his residence. Mr. Vannoy was born November 24, 1914 in Madisonville to the late John Henry Vannoy and Vada Fox Vannoy. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth Vannoy; one daughter, Ellen Vannoy Sloop; and one brother, James Ralph Vannoy. Mr. Vannoy was a member of the First Christian Church in Madisonville. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1937, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He was a chairman of the Hopkins County Red Cross, President of Wilson McPherson, a member of the Rotary Club, a board member of the Madisonville Housing Commission, a member of the Chamber of Commerce, a board member of First Federal, past president of the UK Alumni, and a board member for over 30 years at RMC. He was also a board member of James Madison Days and the Girl Scout Council. He was a recipient of the Centurion Award at Fitness Formula and the Loman Trover Health Award. He enjoyed wood working, family, and church, and was a huge U. K. fan. He was a warm loving man and will be missed by many. He is survived by one daughter, Laura Vannoy Padgett; three grandchildren, LCDR, Julie Elizabeth Padgett of Corpus Christi, TX; Mr. Beau Granville Padgett of Madisonville; and Dr. Laurie Markle Sloop Ziliak of Haubstadt, IN; and seven great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held privately by Barnett-Strother Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions to be made to the First Christian Church Building Fund.
