Cloyce Bradley Hicks Obituary (1921 - 2008)

Mr. Cloyce Bradley Hicks, 86, of Madisonville, KY, went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2008 at 1:05 A.M. at his home. \ Born December 26, 1921 in Earlington, KY he was the son of the late William Gordie Hicks and Ida Bessie Hicks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Connie Marie Hicks, his grandson, Bradley Stewart Hatfield, four brothers, Maurice, Leamon, Bill and Hershel and a sister, Dorothy Alice. \ He served in the Army during W.W.II in the 116th Signal Corp (116th Signal Radio Intelligence Co.). He installed and operated tactical field radio, transmitting and receiving equipment and sent and received messages by Morse Code. He served in England, France and Germany. He received the American Theater Ribbon with four bronze service stars, Good Conduct Medal and W.W.II Victory Medal. He retired from East Diamond Coal Mines (Island Creek Coal Co.) after 48 years of service in the electrical department as an armature winder. \ He has been the secretary and bookkeeper at the Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church for 50 years. He attended church faithfully and has loved the Lord with all of his heart. It has been said that the Lighthouse has been his life. \ Mr. Hicks is survived by two daughters, Veronica Hatfield of Henderson, KY and Sandra Phelps of Madisonville; a sister, Debbie Darlene Bowser of Lakeland, FL; three granddaughters, Misti Frazier of Owasso, OK, Candace Phelps-White of Madisonville and Misty Hatfield of Villa Ridge, MO; four great granddaughters, Cori, Erin, Sara and Katie; two great grandsons, Tyler and Canaan and many nieces and nephews. \ Funeral services will be Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. at the Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church in Madisonville with Rev. Ronnie Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. \ There will be military graveside rite conducted by VFW Post #5480, American Legion Post #6 and American Post #2. \ Visitation will be Friday, March 28, 2008 from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until the service time at the church on Saturday. \ Memorials may take the form of donations to the Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
