Elton G. \Bud\"" Hendrix Obituary (1922 - 2012)

\ Elton G. Bud Hendrix (My name is Hendrix, I guess you know yours) 89,of Madisonville, KY, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012 at St. Marys Medical Center in Evansville. \ \ He was born September 14, 1922 in Christian Co., KY to the late Lucian Hendrix and Eula Sharber Hendrix. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nanette Hendrix Walters in 1978; one brother, Earl Hendrix and one sister, Evelyn Langley Johnson. \ \ Mr. Hendrix was a member of the First Church of God in Madisonville. He was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. after almost 20 years of service. He enjoyed singing with the Gospel Sounds at area nursing homes. He was also a member of the AARP, Historical Society of Hopkins Co. and the Great Banquet Community of Madisonville. Mr. Hendrix was also a WWII Army Veteran. He landed on Omaha Beach in Normandy France and also where he fought in The Battle of the Bulge in Germany. He was awarded two purple hearts. He also enjoyed camping and traveling. \ \ He was survived by his wife of 65 years, Mable Hendrix; three sons, Jim (Ruth) Hendrix of Madisonville; Dave (Norma) Hendrix of Madisonville and Ken (Betty) Hendrix of Madisonville; and adopted granddaughter, Stacee (Mark) Helton of East Prairie, MO; two sisters, Doris Jenkins of Maysville, KY and Norma Jean Rawlins of Kankakee, IL; thirteen grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. \ \ Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Robert White and Rev. Dennis Coombs officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. \ \ Visitation will be 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and after 10:00 A.M. until the service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. \ \ Pallbearers will be Brad Hendrix, Brian Higgs, Marc Hendrix, Keith Hendrix, David Hendrix and Jason Stone. \ \ Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of God Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \ \
