Eva Lloyd Trathen Caruthers Obituary (1917 - 2008)

Eva Lloyd Trathen Caruthers died on Sunday, May 25, 2008 in Madisonville, Kentucky. \ Mrs. Caruthers was born on September 11, 1917 in Mortons Gap, Kentucky to the late Jabez Ries Trathen and Mildred Goebel Kington Trathen. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jean Trathen Marquis, and a brother James Ries Trathen. \ Mrs. Caruthers married Maurice Peel Caruthers on January 2, 1982 in Nashville, Tennessee. Mr. Caruthers preceded her in death on April 17, 2003. \ Mrs. Caruthers was the last living member of the 1935 graduating class of Madisonville High School. She attended Georgetown College in Georgetown, Kentucky where she was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. \ Mrs. Caruthers retired as Secretary to the Executive Editor of the Nashville Banner, the afternoon newspaper, on December 31, 1981. \ She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Madisonville and a member of the Highland Garden Club. She was a former member of Belmont Heights Baptist Church in Nashville. \ Mrs. Caruthers was survived by four nephews; a great nephew, a great niece, a stepdaughter, Kay C. Thomison and stepson, John Kent Caruthers, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. \ Pallbearers are her nephews, Dean Ries Trathen, Daniel Kington Trathen, Benjamin Vance Marquis and Charles Trathen Marquis and her grandsons David Lee Thomison and Jeffrey Scott Thomison. \ Honorary pallbearers are F. L. Roy, Daniel Reasons, Fred Mills, Leighton Thomison, Kent Caruthers, Mike Schniepp, Rod Tompkins and Richard Frymire. \ Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, May 29, 2008 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Dr. Bob Rice and Dr. Don Davis officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 P.M. in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Nashville, TN. \ Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday and on Thursday from 9:00 A.M. until the service. \ Memorials may be made to your local Habitat for Humanity organization. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \ \
