Glendal Boyd 'Red" Rice Obituary (1942 - 2016)

Glendal Boyd "Red" Rice, 73, of Madisonville, KY passed away at 9:33 P.M., Sunday, January 31, 2016 at St. Anthony's Hospice in Henderson, KY. He was born in Hopkins County on August 1, 1942, to the late William Henry Rice and Luria Edna Cartwright Rice of Madisonville. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Dorman Ray Rice and Claudie E. Rice. He served in the Navy for three years. He retired from the City of Madisonville Fire Chief position in 1998, having been with the fire department for 33 years. He was the City's first fire inspector and educated the local school children about fire safety. He coached football a various schools as well as the Rotary league for 14 years. Glendal was very involved in the Great Banquet of Madisonville and jail or prison ministry for 20 years. He was a Kentucky Colonel, and a Grand Master of the Mason Lodge 143. Glendal loved Jesus and his church families. He attended churches of the Apostolic faith and for several years at Life Christian Center. He was also past president of the Lion's Club and graduated in the class of 1960 from Madisonville High School. He is survived by his wife of 13 and a half years, Judy Carol Rice; his brother, Shirley Rice; his son, Ronald C. (Shawna) Rice; his daughter, Shari Rene' (Dennis) Brasher, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, four step daughters; Christina Holmes, Rayna (Brandon) Broady, Amanda (David) Cobb, and Hannah Linville, and eight step grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, February 5, 2016 at the Life Christian Center with Dr. Pat Wilson and Ron Rice officiating. Entombment will follow in Forest Memorial Mausoleum with Military honors provided by the Hopkins County Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and after 12:00 P.M. until service time Friday at the Life Christian Center in Madisonville. Pallbearers will be the Madisonville Fire Department Honor Guard. Memorial donations may be made to the Madisonville Great Banquet or the Lucy Smith King Hospice Center in Henderson. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
