Larry "Gene" Darnell Obituary (1949 - 2018)

Larry 'Gene' Darnell, age 68, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2018 at his home in Madisonville, KY surrounded by family and friends. Gene was born October 18, 1949 in Evansville, IN to the late Louis 'Bill' Darnell and Opal Trotter Darnell. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Billy Leon Darnell. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church. He was a member of the UMWA. He worked as a coal miner, ironworker, and boilermaker. Gene loved fishing with friends and family and hunting with his boys. Gene is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandra L. Darnell; two sons, Michael Lee (Jessica) Darnell of Crofton, KY and Mark Alan (Michelle Conway) Darnell of Madisonville; one brother, Robert 'Bob' (Linda) Darnell of Nortonville, KY; two grandchildren Andrew Darnell and Lily Darnell; and severeal nephews, and great nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 A.M. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Michael Darnell, Mark Darnell, Jeff Higgins, John David Higgins, Troy Darnell, and Toby Darnell.
