Leland Monhollon Obituary (1925 - 2005)

Mr. Leland Monhollon, 79, of Madisonville, KY died at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. \ Born November 8, 1925 in Corbin, KY to the late Tom Monhollon and Thelma Prewitt Monhollon. \ Mr. Monhollon was a member of the Hanson United Methodist Church. He attended Corbin High School until entering the US Navy in 1943 and served aboard the battleship USS Idaho in the Pacific War for 2 1/2 years. After discharge from the Navy he attended Cumberland College at Williamsburg, KY. He received a diploma May of 1948. He then entered the University of Kentucky and graduated from law school in 1952. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1952. He attended insurance class and graduated in 1970. He entered the private practice of law in Madisonville, KY where he remained until his retirement in 1997. He was recognized by Marquis Whos Who on several occasions, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. \ He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Alice B. Monhollon; his children, Pat Monhollon and husband, John Shaw of St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada, Michelle Drake of Sarasota, FL, Stuart Uzzle of Poseyville, IN and David Uzzle of Dawson Springs, KY; his sister, Lena Lay of Corbin and granddaughters, Amy Clark of Hanson, KY and Joy Uzzle of Madisonville grandson; Stephen Uzzle of Madisonville; several great-grandchildren; three nieces, Deborah Bowker, Lucinda Lay and Donna Franklin; one nephew, Don Bowker and two great nephews, Don Bowker Jr. and Brandon Jewell. \ Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, June 23, 2005, at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Proctor and Rev. Don Bunch officiating. \ He will be taken to his birthplace, Corbin, KY, for visitation from 10:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. EDT Friday at ONeil Funeral Home. \ Graveside services will be at 1:30 P.M. Friday at the Pleas Monhollon Cemetery in Corbin, KY. with burial to follow. There will be military graveside services also. \ Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home in Madisonville. \ Pallbearers will be John Shaw, David Uzzle, Stephen Uzzle, Stuart Uzzle, Austin Clark and Donald Bowker. The Honorary Pallbearer will be Joseph Kelley. \ Memorials may take the from of donations to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \
