Lula M. Walthen Simmons Obituary (1909 - 2004)

Mrs. Lula M. Wathen Simmons, 95, of Hanson, KY died at 8:40 A.M. Saturday, October 2, 2004 at the Hillcrest Nursing Home in Owensboro, KY. \ Born March 31, 1909 in St. Joseph, KY she was the daughter of the late William Henry Wathen and Monia Vowels Wathen. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Granville Marion Simmons on May 15, 1997 , one daughter, Rosemary Burk, one brother and five sisters. \ She was a self-employed beautician and a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Madisonville. \ She is survived by two daughters; Violet Marie Boswell of Indiana, PA and Shirley Whistle of Owensboro; one son, William L. Yancey of Owensboro; sixteen grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. \ Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at the Christ the King Catholic Church with Rev. Gerald Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow in the West Lawn Cemetery in Hanson, KY. \ Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and Tuesday from 11:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. at the funeral home. \ Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Christ the King Catholic Church.
