Luz Jr. Gonzalez Obituary (1930 - 2008)

Mr. Luz Gonzalez, Jr., 78, of Madisonville, KY died at 8:20 P.M. Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the Regional Medical Center . \ Born March 16, 1930 in Hidalgo, Texas he was the son of the late Luz Gonzalez, Sr. and Juana Fonseca Gonzalez. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Helen Krenn Foster and his second wife, Arahlee Graham Gonzalez. \ He retired from the U.S. Army after 26 years. He served all over the United States and served two tours in Korea, two tours in Vietnam and Germany. He then retired from the U.S. Postal Services in 1992 after 15 years. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church. He was a volunteer for the Regional Medical Center for many years, having over 2500 hours of service. \ He is survived by his wife, Glenda Bowles Gonzalez of Madisonville; three daughters and son-in-law, Rose Marie Carey of Columbia, SC, Patricia Murray of Charleston, SC and Susan and Perry Carter of Columbia SC; two sons and daughters-in-law, Martin Luz and Diana Gonzalez of Columbia SC and Robert J. and Kathy Gonzalez of Madisonville; one sister, Ofalia Torres of Sinton, TX and one half-sister, Nancy Biggs of Wichita Falls, TX; one brother, Amelio Gonzalez of Beeville, TX; six grandchildren, Tina Lee, Christina Gonzalez, Michael and Amanda Carey, John Catoe and Cierra Gonzalez; four great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. \ Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, August 11, 2008 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Father Gerald Calhoun officiating. Burial will follow in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Madisonville. Pallbearers will be Bill Burns, Rick Pryor, Robert Elrod, Perry Carter, Johnny Catoe and Bob Daugherty. \ Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until the service on Monday at the funeral home. \ Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Christ the King Building Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
