Richard H. \Dick\"" Smith Obituary (1938 - 2004)

r. Richard H. Dick Smith, 66, of Madisonville, KY died at 3:55 P.M. Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at the Regional Medical Center Emergency Room. \ Born June 2, 1938 in Millersville, PA he was the son of the late Herbert Smith and Flossie Miller Smith. \ Mr. Smith was a self-employed insurance and investment agent. He also retired as a Lieutenant Colonel from the U.S. Army after serving twenty-eight and a half years; including serving in the Viet Nam War. He received the Meritorious Service Award for his outstanding military service from the President of the United States. He was a graduate of Penn State University in Industrial Engineering and obtained a Masters Degree from Memphis State and the University of Tennessee. He was a member of Rotary for several years and coordinated the International Youth Exchange Program where he had more recruits than anyone else in the state. He was also very active in the Rotary Auction. He was a certified Special Olympics coach and a Kentucky Colonel for his community service work. He was a former band booster at Madisonville North Hopkins High School band a volunteer at Glema Mahr Center. He was co-owner of Daybreak Horse Park and involved in breeding and showing American Saddlebred Horses. His horses won the 1999 World Championship and various high point state championships in several divisions. He was also an active member of Covenant Community Church. \ He is survived his wife, Donna Baldridge Smith of Madisonville; two daughters, Catherine J. Smith of Bowling Green, KY and Tamara Baldridge of Hanson, KY; two sons, Michael K. Smith of Franklin, TN and Douglas R. Smith of Denver, CO; one brother, Herbert Smith of Harrisburg, PA and two grandchildren. \ Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Friday, July 2, 2004 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Knight officiating. Burial will follow in the Western Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Christian County, KY at 1:30 P.M. \ Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Thursday and on Friday from 9:00 A.M. until the service at the funeral home. \
