Eugene \Mitch\"" Mitchell Obituary (1921 - 2008)

Mr. Eugene Mitch Mitchell, 86, of Madisonville, KY, died at 3:45 A.M., Sunday, September 28, 2008. \ He was born November 22, 1921, in St. Charles, KY to the late James Mitchell and Rosie Henderson Mitchell. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Etta Mitchell Bennett; second wife, Geraldine Hurt Mitchell; one son, Louis Mitchell; two stepsons, James M. Barron and Stephen L. Barron; one sister, Mabel Eli; two brothers, Edward Mitchell and Perry Mitchell and one step grandson, Jonathon Spriggs. \ He was a World War II, U.S. Veteran with Company C 23rd Infantry Division where he was in European theatre. He also was a basketball star at Nortonville High School, where his jersey was retired. He was a coal miner at Island Creek Coal Company for 33 years, a member of American Legion Post #6, VFW Post #5480 and the UMWA. \ He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Jo Nell Mitchell of Madisonville; four daughters, Phyllis (Larry Stoney) Stone of Lexington, TN, Linda (John) Reeves of Lexington, Sharon (Danny) Spriggs of Madisonville and LaLena (Bob) Utley of Nebo, KY; one son, Terry (Tammy) Barron of Madisonville; 23 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. \ Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, September 30, 2008 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Nathan Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Madisonville, KY. \ Pallbearers will be Billy Joe Reeves, Chad Reeves, Troy Bess, Travis Bess, Danny Spriggs and Ronald Stone. \ Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Monday and after 9:00 A.M. on Tuesday at the funeral home. \ Memorial contributions may take the form of donation to the Mahr Cancer Center. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. \
