Dr. Ferris I Larsen Obituary (1931 - 2018)

Dr. Ferris I. Larsen died on July 24, 2018 at the age of 87. Born in Gowen, MI on June 22, 1931 to the late Jens Einer Larsen and Iva Skinner Larsen, he was encouraged by his mother to become a doctor after losing two brothers to appendicitis. He attended Michigan State University from 1949-1953 and went on to earn his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1957. He completed an internship at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, MI before moving to Talihina, OK to serve in the Public Health Service for two years. The more temperate climate drew Ferris and Evelyn to Kentucky in 1960 where he joined Trover Clinic in Earlington, KY. He later served in the Morganfield satellite for 14 years before returning to Madisonville in 1986. His long career at Trover Clinic spanned five decades from 1960-2010. He was a dedicated physician who took great pride in caring for his patients. He was a long time member of the United Methodist Church who lived out his faith in all that he did. He was an avid fisherman, spending many happy hours on the waters of Lake Michigan. He is survived by his wife Evelyn, having celebrated 64 years of marriage earlier this month, and their five children; Tim Larsen of Williston, FL, Beth (Greg) McCord of Evansville, IN, Wendy (Paul) Lamb of Springfield, TN, Amy (George) Lynch of Nashville, TN, and Pamela (Michael) Clark of Monrovia, IN; eight grandchildren, Sarah McCord (Eric) Moreau, Mitch McCord, Rob McCord, Michael (Bethany) Lamb, Hannah Lamb, Henry Lynch, Haynes Lynch and Madelyn Neal; three great-grandchildren, Leona and Oliver Moreau and Isaiah Lamb; and two brothers, Fran Larsen of Santa Paula, CA and Rodney Larsen of Hamden, MA. Funeral services will be at 11:30 A.M. Saturday, July 28, 2018 at the Earlington United Methodist Church with Bro. Marty Martinez officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until service time on Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Earlington UMC, 201 East Moss Avenue, Earlington, KY 42410.
