James Wallace “JW” Cotton Obituary (1936 - 2017)

James 'JW' Wallace Cotton, 81 of Anton, KY passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at Owensboro Regional Hospital in Owensboro, KY. He was born on February 3 1936, but celebrated on February 24, in Hopkins County to the late William Cotton and Nora DeArmond Cotton. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Freda Mae Hook Cotton and his son, Darrel Watson; and only niece, Diann Durham. JW was a retired coal miner and attended Elm Grove Methodist in Anton. He was a member of the Popcorn CB Club and DES Emergency Management. He was a Major at the Anton Volunteer Fire Department. He was the 'popcorn man' at North Hopkins High School. He was also a commercial fisher. He loved being outdoors and fishing, being with family and friends, and loved the holidays. He is survived by three daughters, Judith (Ronnie) Vickery of Anton, Nora (Anthony) Jones of Hanson, KY, and Amanda (Josh) Wright of Anton; two sons, James Dale (Vonia) Cotton of Bremen, KY, and Keith (Kristi) Cotton of Lexington, TN; one sister, Eula Dale Johnson of Madisonville; 26 grandchildren, and 45 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Bro. Shaun Vickery, Bro. Dwight Browning, and Bro. Marty Martinez officiating. Burial will follow at Hicklin Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Monday and from 9:00 A.M. until service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Billy Cotton, Christopher Cotton, Chris Vickery, Jesse Wright, Michael Wright, Matt Jones, Doug Jones, Coty Jones, Phillip Jones, Heath Jones, and Nick Jones. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Children's Hospital. Envelopes will be made available at the funeral home.
