Mary Evelyn Richardson

Mrs. Mary Richardson, 84, of Madisonville, passed away at 5:35 A.M. Monday June 20, 2011 at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville. \ She was born April 8, 1927, in Mortons Gap, KY to the late Will Ray Dixon and Hazel Fox Dixon. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Basil Richardson; a daughter, Brenda Joy Richardson and two brothers, Billy and Lyndal Dixon. \ She attended Salem Baptist Church in Mortons Gap. Mary was a faithful member of Taking Off Pounds (TOPS Club) having initiated her membership in 1970. In 1971, she reached her Keep Off Pounds Sensibly (KOPS) status, and was the longest standing member of KOPS in Kentucky. She had a great sense of motivation and inspiration in helping others in this club. \ When permitted, Mary loved doing hand work. She crocheted and was a passionate, self-taught quilter. She was an active member of BBQ, Piecemakers of Hopkins County and quilted weekly with the Happy Hands and Hearts Quilters. She loved making and giving baby quilts to special friends and family. Marys legacy will live on through her many quilts that manifest her excellent hand piercing, appliquing and quilting skills. \ She is survived by her devoted son, Tommy (Carol) Richardson of Madisonville; one granddaughter, Melissa (Mike) Poynter of Lexington, KY; one grandson, Daniel Richardson of White Plains; two great grandsons, Matthew and Mason Poynter of Lexington; one brother, Dorris (Nora) Dixon; two sister-in-laws, Annette Dixon and Remona Dixon both of Madisonville and several nieces and nephews. \ Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery. \ Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday and 9:00 A.M. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home. \ Pallbearers will be Rick Long, Brad Long, Mike Poynter, Donnie Fox, Bryce Dixon and Reed Dixon. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Lovan and Edward Fox. \
