Richard C. Spence

Mr. Richard C. Spence, 65, of Madisonville, Ky died at 12:58 A.M. Friday, April 16, 2004 at the Regional Medical Center. \ Born December 3, 1938 in Owensboro, KY he was the son of the late Dr. James Carroll Spence. \ Mr. Spence was a real estate developer and investor. He was a graduate of the University of Vanderbilt. He was a member of the Madisonville First United Methodist Church where he served on numerous boards and served on two mission trips to Haiti and Jamaica. He was a former Madisonville City Councilman; former director and board member of the Hopkins County Fair Board and served on the United Way board of directors. He was active in the Habitat for Humanity Community. He was a Rotarian for seventeen years and was a U.S. Army veteran, having served with the Army Corp of Engineers. He was an avid member of the Madisonville Duplicate Bridge Club. \ He is survived by his wife, Dr. Shirley Harvey Spence of Madisonville; his mother, Mattie Smith Spence Corder of Madisonville; one daughter, Marisa Spence of Owensboro, KY; four sons, John Richard Spence of Ft. Myers, FL, Paul Anthony Spence of St. Petersburg, FL, Sean C. Spence of Boise, ID and Bob Harvey of Orlando, FL; one brother, James R. Spence of Belize and three grandchildren. \ Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 18, 2004 at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home with Rev. Weyman McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in the Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Dr. James Donley, Jim Stinson, John McClearn, Rudy Thomas, Wayne Scott and Gary Brown. \ Friends may call from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Saturday and on Sunday from 12:00 Noon until the service at the Barnett-Strother Funeral Home. \ Memorial gifts may take the form of donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Charity of your choice \ \
